Recover hard drive partition

In this task we want to describe how to recover one or more lost partitions. Main reason for lost partitions are accidental deletions or wrong formatted hard drives.
Also, some bad sectors could be responsible for partition recovery. This task is very similar to 'how to recover files from hard drive' but can be faster if 'Data LifeSaver' locate the right partition with his fast heuristic scan.
Be sure that you have enough space on a second drive to copy the content of the recovered partitions because Data LifeSaver is 'read-only'.

  1. Select on the start screen of Data LifeSaver Volume Recovery - Full Data Recovery - Partition Recognition - On Power Failure - On Formatted Drives

  2. In the next screen, you will displayed now the recognized hard drives, which are possible to recover. Internal hard drives are marked as silver devices, external hard drives are marked as orange devices. Addition you can make a hard drive file recovery from a disk image file, which have to make first with Data LifeSaver.
It is possible that the software shows you some drive letters below the hard drive icon. This should help you to identify the right hard drive for recovery.
Now, double click the hard drive from which you want to recover the files. In our example we select the first hard drive.

  3. To use first the fast scan for partitions, select now 'Quick, scan for lost partitions first'

  4. You will get now a list of all partition ranges found by Data LifeSaver with a very quick partition search. Additional there was an entry 'not allocated'. This is the rest of the hard drive. It is possible that there are some partitions in the tail of the hard drive. You can recover them if you select this range for recovery too.

Recognized partitions always have a drive letter, partitions without a drive letter have still entries but are no more recognized by the operating system.
Partitions without numbers or letters are heuristically calculated by the software.
Select now the ranges you want to recover and select next.

  5. If the calculation is finished, the partitions of the hard drive will be shown.
To recover the files or partitions you have to select them by set little hooks certain files or folders. If you select the small hard disk icon at the root of the file system you will recover one whole partition.
Select now 'Recover' in the main menu of the software to start the recovery process.

Don't forget: you need space on a second drive to recover the files from original hard drive.

  6. The quality of a file recovery could be very different depends on the kind of data loss. Check random sample files before buying a license. You can do this by double click the files and evaluate the file content. This is very easy for jpeg-pictures and more.
